Dear Summer 08'...More Food for thought !!!!
More excerpts from my readings...
Others
Everyone in our lives is a mirror of who we are, what we think and what we do. They reflect back to us our secret thoughts and feelings. More important, they come to show us what we need to learn. People do not come into our lives to hurt us, they come because they love us. The people in our lives love us so much, they come to show us what we must do to grow beyond the thoughts and emotions that cause us pain. The best thing we can do for ourselves and the people in our lives is to love them unconditionally, forgive them without reservation and to accept them exactly as they are. What we must always remember about others is that whatever we give to them or do to them will come back to us tenfold.
Iyanla Vanzant
Dear Summer...Food for thought !!!!!
So I have a book by Iyanla Vanzant called "Acts of Faith" . I call it my every day book, it is divided into months and then each day of the month has a reading, each month has a topic. Today I stumbled on something that was very intersting and made me go HMMM .... I thought I would share Iyanla Vanzant's words. July 29th - "Instant intimacy is very often followed by desperate disullusion"
We can become so emtionally charged by a person that we allow ourselves to be intimate before we know who the person really is. When we give our bodies to another being, we are giving them a piece of our souls. We might want to take the time to find out if they deserve it. Sexual activity is not theo nly way to let someone know we like them. Sharing information, supporting each other's goals, giving of our time and energy without expectations sends a much stronger message than sex. We must take time to know the other person; understand what they want, when they are going and figure out if we want to be in the same place. When we let down our hair too early in the game we are apt to end up with a messed up head.
I will chose time over intimacy.

I say that to say this working in the music industry is never what we think it will be.
It's a journey full of surprises. You take it for what it is one day at time.
Making the most of everyday.
In the four years that I have worked at Universal Music Canada. I was invited to join the Universal Urban family. I mean I even knew what Universal Urban was before I walked into this building. Their shit was everywhere !!! What I didn't know was what went into making a team so strong and efficient. I didn't know how hard they had to fight to have an Urban Department. I had the pleasure to work with the best people in this country- who had paved the way for me and other people. They embraced me and also allowed me to be embraced by their friends, families and business contacts. We laughed together, partied together, faught together, cried together. I will even go as far as saying that we worried together. We did everything together as a real family would. Sooner than later I realized that being part of Universal Urban was like being the only step child in the family. We had a mother- she ran the ship, she was the SR. VP of Interscope, before I even knew who these guys were in 1998 -she made it possible for Universal Urban to exist. In January 2008- she left the company to pursue other interests. She was our "mother", she became one of my "mentors". We all knew that with our mother gone, it was only a matter of time before the ship was rocked. We all new it was coming but didn't know when. Before we knew it, it was tapping us on our shoulder. In a matter of 24hrs, what I had been fearing to happen for 4 years took place. Isn't it funny how you can worry about something for so many years and someone can make it all change in 24hrs. So, in a nutshell Universal Urban the department is always there in heart. It will always be a part of us. In the physical sense "WE'RE DONE FOR NOW". We are now going to function as a multi genre "LIFESTYLE & MARKETING" Department. Now don't get me wrong, I am excited at the progression and possibility of creating something new once again but I would be lying if I said that it wasn't a bitter sweet moment. Here is to more laughter, new memories, new friends, a new team, new experience and all that good stuff...
