Dear Summer 08'- Time OUT !
The lovely ladies that helped ease me into my role as a vip door attendant ! Thank you !
It's been a long stretch of business. WOW !!! MMVA's were great, didn't get to attend the show or see the whole thing but I was very proud of the red carpet entrance that Kardi had.
Getting the "Dangerous" girls ready was a headache, honestly ! It's like they didn't want to do anything , they didn't even wanna hold a damn picket sign. I MEAN, What did you think this was??? One of the girls even walked out on me last minute. It was so funny. Anywho, let's skip the details on that and move on.
I didn't get to go to the show but I had to be at the club for 9pm to work the VIP entrance for our afterparty at Republik. It was raining on an off and made it a bit miserable for people party hopping. I gotta give it up to people who work the doors at the club. I had no idea your job was so stressful.
I had a girl come up to me screaming at me "WE ARE SEAN KINGSTON'S BAND WE HAVE TO GET IN HERE" first of all they didn't look like a band, secondly WHY THE HECK ARE YOU SCREAMING AT ME- I DONT CARE WHO YOU ARE, doesn't give you a right to scream at anyone. So I had to tell the lady "Keep screaming and see how far it gets you"
Finally I let her in, gave her tickets and on her way she went but DANG ! Some people man !
I worked at the door til about 1 am, when I got inside the party was on. All "ma frens" were inside, dancing having a great time. The fam was there which made it even better. The crew represented like 30 deep. I LOVED IT !!!! It is great to party with people that are fam, that way its just real all around. I was having an amazing time. Dancing and smiling like it was the best party EVER ! Bottles poppin', walking around with 2 bottles in my hand pouring dranks for "MA FRENS" GOOD TIMES !!!! All under control :-)
OH Snap ! I got a funny story for you guys, as we are all drinking 4 bottles are on the table - all fam around so it was all good. I didn't mind. Out of nowhere I see this guy pouring himself a SECOND drink from our bottles. So I asked "Do we know each other?" and he responded "NO BUT I HAVE A SONG ON FLOW" -- I was like "ANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDd..................MAN YOU NEED TO PUT THAT GLASS DOWN CAUSE THIS IS FOR FAM ONLY" HAHAHAHA It was so funny but I'm just saying Who does that?
That being said- I need a time out, too much partying. Seriously my body is very tired. Gotta get some rest for BIG IVES Forver 21 Jam on Saturday !!!!
Dear Summer...If you can't give back, what's it worth?
What's it worth to be in a power to help people and not help out.
I love kids and what makes me the happiest is to see kids happy ! I could be having the crapiest day but let me run into a child and they instantly illuminate my day.
I share this with you because I am overwhelmed with the joy of being able to help kids out.
There is a community centre called Alexandra Park that we have been working with through the years, can't say that I have time to go there all the time. However I never forget about them.
If there is an opportunity for me to help them, I am down. So randomly came in touch with a lady that works at a Toy company and I thought, how cool would it be to get these kids some new toys. Homegirl came through and sent 5 huge boxes full of toys. I was so excited when I received them, I was like a child myself looking through them, imagining how happy these kids will be when I go down to the P and bring them these toys. If we don't look out for these kids who will? Afterall they are our future and I think we should let them know any chance we get that they are important to us ! Especially those of us in position to help.
It really wasn't anything to get these toys that will bring them so much JOY !!! I am really overjoyed to know that I was able to put a smile on these kids faces. I can't wait to go there later on today and bring them the toys. There is something about giving to others that just makes you feel good.
So I challenge you reading my blog, some of you already are giving to others. If you aren't do something. Any little bit helps !!!!
You're never gonna make it to where you going, if you don't remember where you come from !
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Galatians 6:10
Dear Summer 08' - CRAZY HECTIC
So.... like I said before... DEAR SUMMER 08' it's gonna be a CRAZY ONE.
These past two weeks have been mad busy, not only the regular work stuff going on.
We had the Stylus Awards in Toronto. They were off the chains- it was like a FESTIVAL !!! Everwhere you went for the whole weekend you got to connect with peeps you hardly ever see. GOOD TIMES. MONTREAL was in the house reppin'. It was great to hear people speak creole and french. "I PUT ON FOR MY CITY... I PUT ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" Good times.
So that's out of the way, then I was able to attend the Alicia Keys concert which was OFF THE HOOK ! For real, that girl has skills. She had me borderline crying, REAL MUSIC ! WORK IT A KEYS !
While all of this is going on- I am also working with (in my opinion the best promoter in this country) Neil Forester on Girlicious VMA afterparty. It will all go down June 15th, I spent about a week putting together sponsors. AND WE ARE GREAT TO GO !!!!
We have the lovely people at Stylexchange that will be in the house, Iskin and Sky Vodka.
I set it up and tore it down in less than a week.
Now comes all the nitty gritty work of making sure everyone is good to go for the day of.
I love the adrenaline of making shit happen, I can live on that alone !!!!
Anywho- time is ticking I gotta get back to it.
P.S. If you don't know yet- LIL WAYNE- THA CARTER 3 IS THE SHIIIIIIIIIIITTT!!!!!!!!! PICK IT UP
P.S.P.S. N.E.R.D. SEEING SOUNDS ALBUM IS HOT TOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
"Une vraie histoire d'amour"
Today, I was inspired when I watched a documentary on Fashion Television about Yves St- Laurent. Through all the testimonies on his legacy, one that stood out the most was just how much he shaped and molded women fashion for many decades. His parisian flair is what lead to his dignified success. When describing his admiration for haute couture, he simply stated:
"C'est une vraie histoire d'amour". Which in English translates to "It's a real love story".
That left me thinking about the many love stories we encouter in life; with significant others, with jobs, fashion, fads. We endure the highs and the lows, as we would with a lover. Hence reliving many love stories that each have their times and significance. They can be relevant or disimissed in the future.
Some love stories in our lives last a lifetime, they follow us through all of the seasons and years. Just like that amazing pair of heels that we can't let go of. Eventually of course we get new pairs and begin "Une nouvelle histoire d'amour". The new heels can be more expensive and newer. Still they cannot compete with the love story we have lived with the older pair.
Somewhere deep down inside we wish we could simply relive moments in the old pair a bit longer. Take them off the back shelf. Silently hoping that maybe one day, that pair of heels after many years, magically reappears on a shelf in a shoe store. BRAND NEW ! Brand new, just so we can relive "Une autre histoire d'amour" once again.
