The Remix Project Updates
Today we had a great meeting at The Remix. I am Chair of the Board here- which I still feel is a very overwhelming title. It just sounds cool. I really just listen and watch all the cool work these guys are doing here- oh yeah and bring chairs to the meeting lol (inside joke). Real talks, these guys are really doing there thing, I intend on spreading the word in anyway I can.I thought I would start by sharing with you some of the great success that The Remix has encountered this past year. These were shared at the meeting earlier today and I felt they were so grand that everyone should know about that. I am as anyone, proud of their continued success and hard work.
Sucesses and Highlights (taken from Drex's notes lol)
  • A priority project of the Mayor's office for three consecutive years
  • Official partner of the City of Toronto's 175th anniversary
  • Made an official partner organization of UN Habitat
  • Awarded top three youth programs int he world by UN Habitat in 2008
  • Presented at Harvard University on community development through Hip Hop
  • Presented at United Nations Habitat conference in Monterrey, Mexico, on community development through art and culture
  • The Governor General of Canada did a site visit to Remix's facility
  • Remix went on a 2 week trip to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, with 4 participants and 3 staff
  • Received national press Globe and Mail, National Post, CBC, Much Music, Global Television, The Metro and local press in the Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, 1010 CFRB radio, Flow 93.5 etc.
  • Held three successful graduation ceremonies
  • Over 80 participants completed and graduated from The Remix Program
  • 21 participants gained high school co-op credits at Remix
  • 5 youth received one year full scholarships to Humber College through Remix
  • Hired 12 youth from The Remix to become youth leaders at The Remix
  • Over $100,000 in grant money secured by participants in Remix through staff assistance
  • 21 recording projects were completed by participants
  • Over 60 mentorships matches made with Remix participants

Once again congratulations to Gavin, Drex, Amanda, T-Rexx, Pro Logic and Brock for their hard work. Of course a big hand of applaud for all the students as well !!!!
